Let's Talk About: Manu Ginobili

This week we will be talking about the one, the only, Manu Ginobili.  Most people when they see that Ginobili was born in Argentina they assume that soccer would be his sport of choice.  But, the town of Bahia Blanca (Ginobili's birthplace) is very unique in that basketball reigns supreme.

Growing up, Ginobili idolized the great Michael Jordan.  Ironically, only 11 lbs. separate the two when it comes to physical build (Ginobili 6-6, 205 lbs; Jordan 6-6, 216 lbs).  While there is a "slight" difference when it comes to career success, both players have won multiple championships and are pure scorers.  Ginobili has won championships in Europe, the NBA, and the Olympics.  He has literally conquered the world of basketball.  One award that has evaded Manu is MVP of the NBA.  He will more than likely never achieve this due to the team-focused style of basketball that San Antonio plays.  The MVP award is not something that an unselfish player like Ginobili would even strive for.  His for-the-team mindset is one reason he is so valuable to his team, whether that be the San Antonio Spurs or the Argentina national team.

If more players on more teams would play like Manu Ginobili then the NBA would not only be more fun to watch but it would also lead to success for several teams who have focused all there time and money on that one "superstar" who only cares for himself.
